Frederik & Mary: Cinematic Couple

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark at the premiere of Ved Verdens Ende in Copenhagen (28 Sep 2009)

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary went out on a little movie date together on Monday evening — the star-studded premiere of the Danish action-adventure film Ved Verdens Ende (in English, that’s At World’s End) in Copenhagen at the Imperial Cinema.

The premiere was a charity event, and many famous Danes were there — including one of Frederik’s ex-girlfriends, Danish pop singer Maria Montell.  There are apparently no hard feelings between the former couple, as both Frederik and Mary greeted Maria with kisses on the cheek, just as they did with many of the other prominent guests.

You can see more photos of the event, including those with Maria Montell, here at MSN Starlounge.

Royal Wedding: Prince Louis and Tessy Antony (2006)

Prince Louis and Princess Tessy on their wedding day in Luxembourg (29 Sep 2006)

Happy third wedding anniversary to Prince Louis and Princess Tessy of Luxembourg!  The couple were married on September 29, 2006, in Gilsdorf, Luxembourg.

This was one of the many non-traditional royal weddings we’ve been seeing in recent years; Prince Louis and Tessy Antony’s first son, Gabriel, was born three months before their marriage.  As a result, Prince Louis lost his place in the succession to the grand ducal title of Luxembourg when he married Tessy, and she and their son were not given royal titles.

However, on this year’s Luxembourg National Day, Tessy was made HRH Princess Tessy of Luxembourg.  Both of their sons, Gabriel and Noah, were given the title of Prince of Nassau and the style of His Royal Highness.  Read more about their new titles on our blog post from the day!

William & Kate: Starlight Date

Prince William and Kate Middleton mingle at the Starlight Foundation charity auction (26 Sep 2009)

From The Daily Kate:

Kate Middleton, Prince William, and the entire Middleton family were out in force on Saturday evening to raise money for the Starlight Foundation, a children’s charity which was founded by actress Emma Samms.

The Mail reports that Kate “played hostess to a table of guests” at the auction fundraiser, which was held at London’s Saatchi Gallery.  One of the items up for bid was a party to be thrown for twenty children courtesy of the Middletons’ party supply company, Party Pieces.

Party Pieces has worked with the Starlight Foundation before, notably during the last Christmas season, when they helped throw parties for children in hospital in England.  At the time, Carole Middleton noted, “Kate has been the inspiration behind our involvement with Starlight Children’s Foundation, a UK charity that helps brighten the lives of seriously and terminally ill children by granting their wishes and providing hospital entertainment.”

Mail writer Julie Moult revealed that “Kate has already raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for the charity.”

Kate wore a long, gunmetal-gray gown with a plunging neckline, while Prince William opted for a shirt and jacket with no tie.  He was photographed speaking with some of the young children who have benefitted from the foundation.

The entire group reportedly continued the evening with a trip to nightspot Raffles, where Prince Harry was also reveling, in the wee hours of the morning.

Bachelorette Watch: Eugenie Heads to Uni

Princess Eugenie on her first day of university at Newcastle (24 Sep 2009)

The city of Newcastle upon Tyne has a new royal resident: Princess Eugenie of York began her first year at the city’s famous university this week.

The Queen’s granddaughter, who scored the highest A-levels of any member of the royal family, will be reading English and art history at uni.  Several of her pals from Marlborough College (which also counts royal girlfriend Kate Middleton among its alums) are also at Newcastle with her, and she clasped hands with one of them as they walked to their first class.

Eugenie’s reportedly aiming for a normal and traditional student life, even bunking down at one of the university’s residence halls.  And it appears that she’s already managed to start up a normal student social life, as she was photographed heading home from Perda nightclub later the same evening!

Royal Wedding: The Count and Countess of Paris (2009)

The Count and Countess of Paris arrive for their religious wedding (26 Sep 2009)

Today in Arcangues, a town in the extreme southwestern part of France, The Count and Countess of Paris will be married in a religious ceremony.  Henri, Count of Paris is the Orléanist claimant to the throne of France — he is a direct descendant of the last French king, Louis Philippe I.  If the French still had a monarchy, he would likely be the reigning king.

The Count and Countess of Paris, who was born Micaela Cousiño y Quiñones de León, have actually been legally married for twenty-five years.  After Henri divorced his first wife, who now holds the title of Duchess of Montpensier, he married Micaela in a civil ceremony on October 31, 1984.

The Catholic Church, which does not recognize divorce, refused to grant Henri an annulment, so his marriage to Micaela has never been valid in the eyes of the Church.  However, an annulment was granted late last year, and the couple can now marry religiously, one month before the silver anniversary of their civil wedding.

Royal guests at the wedding are expected to include the Duke of Anjou and the Count of La Marche.  Henri’s son and heir, the Duke of Vendôme, is not expected to attend; his wife, Princess Philomena, is pregnant with their first child, due in December.  Photos from their wedding can be found in this post from May.
